2021 Annual Meeting

44th Annual Meeting - Virtual Conference

You are invited to attend the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Section of the American Water Resources Association (AWRA). The meeting will be held virtually March 3rd and 4th, 2021. Abstracts are due Dec. 18th (see below). A preliminary program and registration materials will be available in Jan. 2021. For updates, please visit the AWRA website.

Call for Papers

With a virtual conference in mind, we are soliciting both long and short-format presentations on water resource topics including hydrogeology, watershed management, hydrology, limnology, aquatic toxicology, water chemistry, aquatic ecology, climate change and water use.

Long format presentations are about 12 minutes in length, similar to a traditional WI-AWRA talk. Short format presentations will be more analogous to lightning talks, with a 5-minute maximum length. There will be no poster session this year. To help fill the void left by not having posters, short format presentations will also include an option for supplementary material (most likely slides of some sort), which will be posted online. Think of the 5 minute talk then, as similar to the initial pitch that a poster presenter would give to those walking up to the poster.

Please specify your preference for a short or long-format presentation when you submit your abstract. We will do our best to accommodate your preference, but because of uncertainty with the virtual presentation platform, we cannot at this point guarantee a full-length talk to everyone.

Earlier this year we asked you what would make virtual presentations successful and a common theme in the responses was the desire for interaction. With that in mind, we are still thinking about how to handle Q&A and discussion for the presentations. Details TBD.

Abstract Submission - due December 18, 2020

The deadline for abstracts is midnight Dec 18, 2020. Abstracts should be limited to 1,500 characters including spaces and submitted by clicking the button below. Contact Jeff Helmuth (jeffrey.helmuth@wisconsin.gov) or John Luczaj (luczajj@uwgb.edu) if you have questions.

Student Awards

The AWRA Annual Meeting is designed to create a student-friendly atmosphere. Students are strongly encouraged to present and discuss Wisconsin-related research in all aspects of water science and policy. To encourage excellence in student oral and poster presentations, up to four awards of $200 will be offered. If you are a graduate or undergraduate student and would like to be considered for an award, please indicate your interest on the abstract submission form.

Distinguished Service Award Nominations

Here’s your chance to recognize the outstanding contributions of AWRA members! This honor is presented at the annual meeting to an individual or group affiliated with the section who has made exceptional contributions in protecting and enhancing Wisconsin’s water resources. Include in your nomination a narrative describing the nominee’s contributions and contact information for both your- self and the nominee. Nominations should be sent to Andy Leaf at aleaf@usgs.gov by Dec 18, 2020. For more information, contact Andy.

Officer Elections

We’re looking forward to resuming officer elections during our virtual 2021 Annual Meeting. We are not soliciting new nominations at this time as the candidates nominated for 2020 have agreed to run in 2021. Should you have any questions regarding Officer Elections, contact Mike Rupiper at miker@capitalarearpc.org.

Donations

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to WI-AWRA. Donations may be made by individuals or organizations and are directly used to fund either student awards, the student career luncheon, or student registration costs.
