45th Annual Meeting - Virtual Conference
You are invited to attend the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Section of the American Water Resources Association (AWRA). The meeting will be held on March 10 & 11, 2022.
Registration is now open! To make the most out of our virtual conference experience this year, we are utilizing the event app Whova (both web and mobile). This is where presentations will be stored, live streams will run, and all networking will take place. Much like an in-person conference, you can set your own agenda, participate in Q&A sessions, and network with your peers! Our theme this year is "Managing Water Resources in a Changing Climate".

Program Highlights
Our theme this year is “Managing Water Resources in a Changing Climate.” We are planning plenary, and oral sessions addressing both surface water and groundwater issues in Wisconsin.
We are pleased to have speakers from the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts at the opening plenary session on Thursday. Steve Vavrus, project co-director and senior scientist at the Center for Climatic Research, will speak about climate change in Wisconsin and share highlights from the recent WICCI climate assessment report. Katie Hein, chair of the Water Resources Working Group, will share updates on the science of climate impacts to Wisconsin’s waters and inspire AWRA participants to lead climate adaptation efforts.
Breakout sessions on Thursday and Friday will include special topics:
• Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impact
• Web-based Dashboards and Decision-support Systems for Water Resources
• Central Sands Neonicotinoids
• Groundwater & Water Policy
General sessions will cover topics including surface and groundwater quality, hydrogeology, shorelines, and urban hydrology.
Thursday evening events will include presentation of the annual Distinguished Service Award, a virtual happy hour, and a discussion session for the short pre-recorded "poster" talks.
Friday will feature a plenary session by Nadia Vogt, Senior Project manager at the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. Nadia will speak about Using Investments In Water To Build Social, Environmental, And Economic Resilience In Our Communities.
WICCI Meeting
All attendees are invited to a WICCI Water Resources Group meeting on Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The meeting will focus on the group’s future activities now that the updated report is complete. The group is considering two areas of future work:
1) hosting a research summit to further the science on climate impacts and/or adaptation and
2) developing trainings on climate adaptation for water resources.
The session will be free with sign-up during meeting registration.

Student Career Workshop
Students are invited to participate in a career workshop on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The workshop will include a discussion of job opportunities by a panel representing a range of career choices for water resources professionals. The workshop is free. Students can sign up during registration. Spots are limited; so sign up early!
Student Awards
The AWRA Annual Meeting is designed to create a student-friendly atmosphere. Students are strongly encouraged to present and discuss Wisconsin-related research in all aspects of water science and policy. To encourage excellence in student oral and poster presentations, up to four awards of $200 will be offered.
Distinguished Service Awards
Join us in recognizing the outstanding contributions of AWRA members! This honor is presented at the annual meeting to individuals or groups affiliated with the section who have made exceptional contributions in protecting and enhancing Wisconsin’s water resources.
Officer Elections
We’re looking forward to officer elections during our virtual 2022 Annual Meeting. We are always looking for volunteers to serve on the AWRA Wisconsin Board or Conference Planning Committee. If you are interested or know someone you’d like to nominate, contact president-elect Mitch Olds (molds@ mmsd.com). Section elections for President Elect, Vice President, Secretary, and Director-at-Large will be held virtually. Biographies of each candidate will be included in the program.
